abt this dawg with a blog

about this blog

24, girl, brooklyn.

i yap way too fucking much about music irl to the extent that it gets a little obnoxious, because i'm self aware like that. i'll write about whatever behooves me and i won't write about anything that doesn't. i'll listen to anything though. please hit da contact form if you have anything to recommend.

i dont like numbers-based rankings

i think a numbers-based system isn't always wholly accurate, nor does it allow for the kind of depth that i want. sometimes certain elements outweigh others. sometimes there are things that are hard to quantify, but need to be addressed nonetheless. maybe i listen to a song that feels wholly inauthentic but it's fun to dance to. what then? rating it a six doesn't tell us much beyond "it's mid." then what? TELL ME MORE!!

if it may please the court: a graph !

i shit u not—this is quite literally how i listen to music. i'm a sound > lyrics typa gal.

apathetic vs. visceral: all i'm looking for is good, consistent tunes that make me dance, make me shimmy (unless you're noah kahan or cassandra jenkins, then fuck you for writing songs that are so vulnerable it makes my chest ache). i wanna feeeeeeeel!!!!!

organic vs. manufactured: this one took me a little longer to parse out. consider this. all top 40 hits might be manufactured, but my favorite top 40 hits feel authentic and organic to an artist's character. in certain cases, said character might be "i'm a cash cow for my label but at least i sound great doing it!" honestly, as long as it aligns with the corporation's artistic vision (assuming the vision is good in the first place), i'll take it.

i talk about beers a lot

ah, yes, the old adage: write drunk, edit sober.

just kidding!!!!! it's actually because my life is really fucking stressful sometimes and my favorite way to unwind requires the following:

  1. a location where i can sit outside if the weather's nice
  2. a good vantage point for people watching
  3. ice cold beer <3
